Whale-y Fancy

Helping to plan a baby shower for Ryan's cousin has been just the kick in the butt I've needed to get my creative juices flowing once again.  Sure, I should be getting ready for vacation, but I've always been a last minute packer anyway!
I found these invitations on Etsy, at a shop called Katie-did Designs:

Baby Boy Shower Iinvite with Ocean friends, digital, printable file (item 1235)

You simply purchase the file, give the designer your event's info, and she creates a downloadable proof you print wherever you like.  I went the most affordable route and had them printed on photo paper at Sam's Club.  In my haste to have the final product in hand, I kinda sorta forgot to include the shower's location, but Katie fixed it up real nice...same day and everything!  If only she could fix my scatterbrain!

One of the grandmothers-to-be suggested we ask the guests to include a children's book with their gift in lieu of a card (which I think is one of the greatest ideas EVER!), so I typed up a little note on the computer and pasted it onto coordinating scrapbook paper to throw in with the invitations.  I used a turquoise pen and one of my favorite fonts for the envelopes:

It's tough to read, but I googled "book instead of card wording" and took bits and pieces of my favorite little rhymes and put them together:

Just one last request, we hope it’s not hard –
Please bring baby a book in place of a card.
Whether Cat in the Hat or Winnie the Pooh,
You can sign the inside so we know it’s from you.
By signing your book we’ll remember and share
Your very special gift even when you’re not there.

My mother-in-law found some coordinating whale thank you notes in TJ Maxx, but they only had one set.  Having nothing to lose, I checked the TJ Maxx near me (almost an hour away from hers) and found another!  Love that store.

So glad to have those done before I take some time off next week.  All I have to do now is remember to put them in the mail...one would think that would be the easy part, but I assure you, it's not!

Minnie piggy

Man, it feels good to have some work to do!  I've kept busy this week making invitations for Camryn's birthday party (and returning the fill-in ones that just weren't gonna cut it!), and now I have some baby shower invitations and thank you notes to address.  And leave it to Dayna to throw in an order for a plate set and piggy bank, which allowed me to catch up on almost an entire season of Real Housewives of NYC in one day!  I posted the plate set already, so here's the pig:

Large piggy banks like Olivia's can be purchased for $25, while medium piggies are available for $15.  Email me at karen.psimas@yahoo.com or message me on Facebook to place an order.  August is almost upon us, so take advantage of Fancy Fonts' July special before it's too late!  Tell a friend about Fancy Fonts and you'll both receive 10% off your next Fancy Fonts purchase!

Oh Canada!

It's been a while since I've had an order for a plate and bowl set, so in all my excitement, I ran out to Michaels to pick up some new paper for the insert.  I knew nothing about the child the plate set was for, other than his name is Charlot and he lives in Canada.  Everything else I know is strictly from Canadian stereotypes (they like playing hockey, going oot and aboot,  etc.).  However, I found this adorable robot paper that would look great inside the lime green plate set I had in stock and couldn't resist.  Throw in a little robotic font and voila!  Now Canada is Fancy too!

The plate set pictured above can be purchased for $15, and additional inserts are $1 each.  Email me at karen.psimas@yahoo.com or message me on Facebook to place an order.  Don't forget "aboot" our July special either!  Tell a friend about Fancy Fonts and you'll BOTH receive 10% off your next Fancy Fonts purchase!

Project 52: Week 29

One of the coolest things about being a parent is watching this little person you created go from being a mysterious creature who does nothing but eat, sleep, and poop to a small child with a personality all her own.  When they start to develop a passion for something - be it a snack, a toy, or an activity - you just can't help but be amazed by it.  It seems Camryn's new passion is surfing, unless I'm a little off and it's just the wetsuit she adores:

She's getting rather adept at dressing herself these days, and she was quite pleased with herself when she managed to get her wetsuit on without any assistance (mostly because she insisted I didn't help!).  She came running to me, yelling, "Wetsuit ON!" and then refused to take it off for dinner.  And don't judge...there are no vegetables on her plate because she prefers to grub off Mommy and Daddy's plate, rather than have her own plate of the same food.  She's a fiesty one.

A bit snippy

Finally!  The wall art for Camryn's big girl room is officially under construction, and it will cost sooooo much less than I ever imagined!  I plan to create quite a few sea creature collages, but here's the first:

Off to make some friends for Mr. Crab!  Please email me at karen.psimas@yahoo.com or message me on Facebook with questions or to place an order.

Idle hands

As I've mentioned in previous posts, people's need for Fancy has dwindled during these summer months, leaving me with some time on my hands to Fancy up things like my girls' bathroom and even my bedroom.  Get your mind out of the gutter...I'm talking about my new headboard!

I've got ideas swirling about for my baby girl's 2nd birthday party (which I should probably reign in and turn into reality), and I'm helping my mother-in-law throw a baby shower for Ryan's cousin.  We won't know the gender of the baby until he or she is born, but the expectant parents chose the adorably neutral whale themed nursery decor below:

In keeping with the whale theme, I found some adorable whale invitations on Etsy, as well as some little whale soaps for party favors.  As I was searching for some whale wall decor to purchase as a gift, I came across a little doo-dad I wanted to try making myself.  This one's a keeper, and I think I'll create a mate for Moby as well...Ollie (or Olivia?) the Octopus, perhaps?  I'm looking forward to making some similar pieces for Camryn's big girl room, too.  Tell me what you think!

Project 52: Week 28

UUUUGGGGGHHHHH!
The girls were upstairs playing while I finished cleaning up after dinner.  I was mentally preparing for the home stretch of the day that is the bedtime routine.  From the bedrooms upstairs, I was hearing squeals of delight instead of shrieks of displeasure (for a change), and as I climbed the stairs, I was eager to get a peak of what they were so excited about.  I opened the door to Camryn's room...

"MESS!" Camryn shouts, grinning from ear to ear.  For what may be the first time ever, I was not amused by her cuteness nor her comedic timing.  An entire dresser of clothes lay strewn about the floor, adding another 15 minutes to my time on the clock when all I wanted to do was punch out.  At least the overtime pay is good.  Oh, wait...

Project 52: Week 27

I thought our 4th of July was going to go a little something like this:

Beach (duh)

Naps

Bike ride to Oceanfront

Who's Bad - The Ultimate Michael Jackson Tribute Band

Fireworks

However, Mother Nature gave us her own fireworks display in the form of a massive thunderstorm that forced us to come up with Plan B.  Plan B still included a great morning at the beach and long naps from both girls. The rest of the day went something like this:

Thunderstorm

Impromptu hot dog bar

Drove to the neighborhood next to ours that was shooting off fireworks despite the rain and lightning

Watched said fireworks

Crossed our fingers we'd make it home on empty

I love when Plan B is just as fun as Plan A!  I'm still pretty bummed we didn't get to see Who's Bad, but hopefully they'll be back in town next summer, if not sooner.  All in all, it was a good and memorable 4th of July.
